The first study to look at the effects of laptop radiation on the testes of men was conducted by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and published in the 2012 Fertility and Sterility Journal.
The study specifically looked at the effects of radiation from WiFi connected laptops on the testes of men who held their laptops on their laps for several hours per day.
The study collected sperm samples from healthy donors between the ages of 28 and 45. Half of the sperm samples were exposed to levels of radiation mimicking that of an average laptop computer connected to WiFi. The amount of distance between a man's testes and a laptop held on the lap was measured and the sperm used in the experiments were kept at a similar distance from the source of the radiation.
After 4 hours, both sperm samples were stained and evaluated. The sperm sample that had been exposed to the laptop radiation showed slowed motility of sperm and DNA fragmentation.
The sperm samples that were not exposed to the radiation showed overall sperm motility to be high and no damage to DNA.
The study concluded that the effect of radiation from WiFi connected laptops on men's reproductive health was severe enough to be considered a source of "sperm damage".
As male infertility has risen over the past decade, and seeing the studied effects of laptop radiation exposure on the health of sperm, it is not hard to draw a parallel between the rise in gadgets placed, worn or carried near the testes and the rise in male sterility.
Laptop EMF Protection
Regardless of their name, laptops should not be kept on the lap. Laptops should be kept on a separate surface so as to increase the distance between them and the reproductive organs of both men and women.
